Sun 20 Apr 2025 09:00 - 21:00 BST
Description
Our full-day Downton Abbey tour from London includes visits to Highclere Castle. Here, you can see notable locations such as the church, the hospital, and the house of Matthew Crawley's mother. At Highclere Castle, the actual filming location for the TV series and movie, you can explore the iconic rooms where beloved characters like Robert Crawley, Lady Mary, and Edith resided. Additionally, you can descend the stairs to the cellars and old staff quarters, where you will find the Egyptian Exhibition, celebrating the 5th Earl of Carnarvon's discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun. Finally, you'll have time to explore the beautiful gardens and parkland surrounding the castle. Next, we head for the beautiful village of Bampton in Oxfordshire. Bampton is the setting for exterior village scenes in the ITV series of Downton Abbey. Visit The Church; see Matthew Crawley's mother's house, the hospital (series two), current people's homes, which have been transformed into the Post Office, and various pubs. In the "hospital," which is the public library, there is also the Vesey room where the Bampton Archive is housed, and various local exhibitions are set out.
